P-2Shreds an A4 sheet into 35 pieces, meeting DIN security rating P-2, suitable for basic day to day non-sensitive data.

P-3Shreds a single A4 sheet into 200 pieces, suitable for basic day to day non-sensitive data. Meets DIN P-3 security rating requirements.

P-4Shreds an A4 sheet into 400 pieces, meeting European P-4 security rating standards, our minimum recommended level for shredding of bank statements or business confidential documents.

P-5Shreds an A4 sheet into 2000 pieces, an appropriate level for confidential personal, financial or strategic papers. Rated DIN security level P-5.

P-6Shreds an A4 sheet into 6000 pieces meeting DIN P-6 security rating standards, the necessary for legal, military and financial document containing proprietary data.

P-7Shreds an A4 sheet into 12,500 pieces. This meets the highest DIN paper destruction rating of P-7, specified by top secret government and military reports.

Security Level

At Rexel we advise selecting a shredder based on the type of information that will be shred and our correlating recommendation of the number of pieces that a single A4 document should be shred into.

Do not rely solely on cut-type definitions such as ‘strip’, ‘confetti’ or ‘micro’ as these don’t necessarily equate the degree of document destruction provided.

Our recommendations are aligned to internationally recognised DIN 66399 standards.

3. Run Time Group (mins):

1-5Designed for short, low volume shredding, typically suitable for domestic shredding needs.

6-10Provides enough operational time to shred multiple documents that may have been accumulated over a short period by a small number of people in a domestic or small office environment.

11-30Will shred for prolonged periods, typically demanded by users that tend to shred paper and documents in batches, accumulated over a period of time.

>30Extended time or continuous shredding machines designed to meet the needs of offices with multiple users and multi-page document shredding needs.

The longer your shredders run time, the more you can shred in one go. Customers that tend to shred in batches often become frustrated with shredders offering poor run times.
Some shredders are designed to shred continuously but the majority feature a safety mechanism to shut the shredder down to avoid overheating. Shredders enter their cool down mode without warning, often after only a few minutes. Customers that haven’t considered run time are often faced with the unexpected problem of their private documents half shredded, jammed in the shredding slot of a disabled shredder.
Shredder run time is a really important factor to consider before selecting a shredder.
